AS Roma keeper Alisson Becker believes that the Giallorossi are primed for a successful assault on Juventus' record-breaking run of consecutive Serie A titles.
The Rome club may have finished the 2016/17 season with a record number of league points but that was not enough to deny Juventus their sixth successive Scuddetto.
Speaking to Sky Italia ahead of what he believes will be a successful season for his club, the Brazilian stopper was overflowing with confidence, all but discounting the threats posed by Napoli and the two Milan clubs.
“In my opinion we’re very strong,” he stated. “We have to be focused for the whole season, and the only team ahead of us – and all the others – is Juventus.
“We have a lot of desire to win and we’re aiming for the Scudetto," the 24-year old continued. "We don’t need to be stronger on paper, but on the pitch we need to show our desire to win.
"The level of Serie A has increased, it’ll be a difficult season but we’re ready," he added.
Alisson is likely to start the upcoming campaign as manager Eusebio Di Francesco's first-choice keeper, with Wojciech Szczesn having joined the defending champions during the off-season transfer window.
“I’m looking forward to a great year; I want to give my best in every game. Last season we only missed the Scudetto, but this year we need to improve.
“I had a year of waiting, it wasn’t easy but it helped me get to know Italian and European football.
“It’s not that different from South America, but there are small differences. I’ve worked well in pre-season and my Serie A debut will be very important for me," Alisson added.
