Barcelona to wear tribute strip

Barcelona players will wear commemorative shirts this weekend to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the city’s terror attacks.

Instead of names on the back of each player’s shirt, the space will be occupied by the word ‘Barcelona’ while the hashtag of ‘TotsSomBarcelona’ (We are all Barcelona) will be on the front.

All games across the top two Spanish divisions will also be preceded by a minute’s silence in memory of the 14 people killed in the terrorist attrocities earlier this week.

Since the attacks – which also left 120 injured – La Liga’s biggest stars have paid tribute to the victims.

“I want to send my condolences and all my support to the families and friends of the victims of the terrible attack in our beloved Barcelona, in addition to totally rejecting any act of violence,” Lionel Messi wrote on Instagram.

“We are not going to give up, there are many more of us who want to live in a world in peace, without hate and where respect and tolerance are the basis of coexistence.”

Fellow star name Cristiano Ronaldo set aside the football rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“Dismayed at the news coming from Barcelona. All the support and solidarity (to) the family and friends of the victims,” Ronaldo wrote on Twitter.
