Preview: West Brom v Bournemouth

Bournemouth will be looking for a winning start to the 2017/18 Premier League campaign when they travel to an out-of-sorts West Brom outfit on Saturday.

The Baggies will not be pleased with their pre-season form after only managing to claim two wins from eight friendlies, including shock losses to non-league Slough Town and League One outfit Bristol City.

The club's fans will none-the-less be full of optimism this weekend as new signings Jay Rodriguez and Ahmed Hegazi both look likely to make their debuts this season.

Unfortunately, Gareth McAuley will sit out with a thigh problem and James Morrison will also be absent due to a knee complaint.

Bournemouth's own pre-season was far from stellar but they did put in credible performances in the 1-0 loss to Valencia and the 2-2 draw with Napoli.

Former England international Jermain Defoe will probably start up front for the Potters, with Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake both in contention for places in what looks like a strong starting XI.

The visitors finished one place above West Brom last season, in ninth, so there is unlikely to be much between these sides on Saturday, but Baggies manager Tony Pulis will be praying for a vastly improved performance frp, his charges or they could be in for a rough opening day.
