Feyenoord claim Super Cup on penalties

Super Cup

Feyenoord claimed the Dutch Super Cup on Saturday with a 4-2 win on penalties over Vitesse, after the match ended 1-1 after full time.

The Dutch champions were quickly out of the blocks and would hit the front early when Jean-Paul Boetius' superb cross was met by Jens Toornstra, who converted in the seventh minute.

Feyenoord were largely in control of the game and seemed more likely to find a second. However, Vitesse found an equaliser when Tim Matavz was fouled in the box, and Alexander Buttner slotted the penalty in the 58th minute.

The game eventually ended all tied where The Club on the Meuse would prevail 4-2 on penalty kicks, with goalkeeper Brad Jones proving to be the hero as he denied both Matavz and Milot Rashica.

Both outfits will no doubt now look ahead to the Eredivisie campaign on the following weekend, with Vitesse facing NAC Breda at home while Feyenoord take on FC Twente in Rotterdam.
