Despite being stuck in the stands, Paris St-Germain’s new world record signing Neymar still grabbed most of the headlines on the opening day of the season.
PSG started their 2017/18 Ligue 1 campaign with a solid if unspectacular 2-0 win over Amiens at Parc des Princes, and they did so without the services of their new Brazilian striker.
Due to an administrative error that resulted in Neymar’s international transfer certificate missing its midnight deadline, the former Barca star was forced to watch the season opener from the stands.
But with Neymar fever clearly still running high, the €222 million man was presented to supporters prior to the game.

Amid an electric atmosphere, and with fireworks and fans chanting his name, Neymar took to the pitch to greet his new fans.
Some fancy footwork was as much as they got too see of him, however, before the attention turned to the match of the day.
“I wanted to play but it’ll happen at the right moment,” Neymar told the media.
The game itself was not much to write home about, although PSG would have been determined not to drop any points as a result of the error preventing Neymar’s participation, and they managed to do so pretty comfortably.
Edinson Cavani gave the hosts the lead shortly before the break thanks to a clever touch and quick feet from inside the box. The cameras picked out Neymar, who rose to his feet and enthusiastically celebrated the goal.
Amiens, who were promoted to the top flight this season, struggled to make much of an impact, and 10 minutes from time they conceded their second, as Javier Pastore tapped home a pass from Cavani.
