Paul Jaeckel has been rewarded with a one-year-contract extension which will see him remain at VfL Wolfsburg until 2020 at least.
The 19-year-old centre-back, who joined the club from the FC Energie Cottbus youth academy in 2014, has been a consistent performer for the club's under 19 side.
He sufficiently impressed to be involved in pre-season preparations with the first team this off-season, and may well feature in the Bundesliga in the coming months.
VfL sporting director Olaf Rebbe told the club's official website: "In recent weeks, Paul has shown some very determined performances in training and test friendlies.
"He was a leader in our U19 side and we expect him to play a significant role in the defence with our U23s.
"Paul has lots to offer and is a prospect for the professional team in the future if he sticks to the task.
"We want to continue encouraging him and prepare him as well as we possibly can to take the next step."
