Matic on verge of United switch

Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea for around £40million.

Matic would become United's third signing of the summer after central defender Viktor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku.

Should he sign, Serbian midfielder Matic will be reunited with Jose Mourinho, whom he won the Premier League title at Chelsea in 2014/15.

A fee has reportedly been agreed with Chelsea and Matic, 29, underwent a medical with United on Sunday.

The transfer fee could rise to £45 million with add-ons, reports said.

A picture of the player wearing a number 31 United training top, the squad number of former player Bastian Schweinsteiger, has been shared on social media.

United played their latest friendly against Valerenga in Oslo yesterday, winning 3-0, and the Serb could make his debut against Sampdoria in Dublin on Wednesday.

He has been training alone in London after being left out of the squad for the club's pre-season tour to Asia amid uncertainty about his future.

Matic had stalled on a new contract at Stamford Bridge and the arrival of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko earlier this summer appeared to signal that his time at the bridge was nearly up.
