Romelu Lukaku’s added another goal to his pre-season tally, as Manchester United took the spoils in the first ever overseas Manchester derby.
Two quick-fire goals on the stroke of half-time saw United get the better of neighbours City in the unfamiliar surroundings of Houston’s NRG Stadium, as Jose Mourinho’s side maintained their 100 per cent pre-season record.
It was Lukaku who again got on the scoresheet after the £75million signing took advantage of a rush of blood from City’s new keeper Ederson, before finishing superbly from a tight angle.

United doubled their lead two minutes later when Henrikh Mkhitaryan picked out Marcus Rashford on the right-hand side of the box and the 19-year-old drilled the ball into the far corner.
Mourinho’s men remained in the ascendancy after the break – not helped by City making a raft of half-time changes – and they almost added to their tally.

Ederson needed to tip over Rashford’s mis-hit cross, while moments later, Lukaku thundered a shot against the bar.
City were rusty in their first pre-season encounter, but almost got on the scoresheet in the final 10 minutes when Gabriel Jesus fired over the bar after being well picked out by Samir Nasri.
