Ancelotti ‘happy’ despite Arsenal loss

FC Bayern München coach Carlo Ancelotti believes Wednesday’s International Champions Cup clash with Arsenal was a valuable pre-season encounter, despite defeat.

Bayern were largely in control of the match throughout the contest in Shanghai and were 1-0 up courtesy of Robert Lewandowski’s first-half strike. However, Arsenal rescued a draw at the death when Alex Iwobi grabbed an equaliser in the 94th minute.

The Gunners then went on to win the tie on penalties 3-2 with David Alaba, Renato Sanches and Juan Bernat all missing from the spot for the Bavarians. Nonetheless, despite the defeat at the Shanghai Stadium in China, Ancelotti says the game was valuable.

He told reporters at the post match press conference, “Unfortunately the result doesn’t reflect the way the game went. But it was a good test, we’re happy.”

The German champions next face AC Milan in their second match of the ICC on Saturday at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzhen.
