Ajax Amsterdam have announced that midfielder Abdelhak Nouri is “out of danger” after collapsing on the field during a pre-season friendly.
Nouri, 20, was airlifted by a trauma helicopter in Austria on Saturday while the pre-season fixture with Werder Bremen was called off immediately.
The initial reports claimed the player was suffering from 'heart rhythm disorders', which proved to be the reasoning behind sending fans home in attendance of the fixture with the Bundesliga side.
"Latest update on Nouri: he is on intensive care and kept asleep, but he's out of danger," read a statement on the club's official Twitter account.
The Netherlands youth international is said to be held in high regard after making his first-team breakthrough with nine appearances last season. And under new manager Marcel Keizer, he scored 10 goals and registered 11 assists in 26 Eerste Divisie games for Jong Ajax.
