Ginter in shock Monchengladbach switch

FIFA Confederations Cup-winning defender Matthias Ginter has completed a shock move from Borussia Dortmund to domestic rivals VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday.

The versatile defender was a mainstay in the Dortmund defence over the past three seasons since joining the club from SC Freiburg in 2014 and joins Mönchengladbach for a reported €17-million.

Ginter looks set to replace Andreas Christensen, who's two-year loan spell from Chelsea has come to an end, and the Bundesliga club has been priced out of a permanent deal for the Denmark international.

"Matthias Ginter will join Borussia from BVB later today, subject to a medical," read a statement on Die Fohlen's official Twitter account.

The length of the contract will be revealed upon the official unveiling of the 13-capped Germany international.
