Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has given fans a first look at the home kit he will be sporting for the foreseeable future as he prepares to make his debut for J1 League side Vissel Kobe.
The World Cup winner posted a photo of himself on social media in his new club’s kit, accompanied by the caption: ‘The beginning of my next chapter.’
Podolski will be testing his skills against the likes of Thai star Chanathip Songkrasin – on loan to Consadole Sapporo this season – as he joins a Vissel Kobe team currently battling it out mid-table in the J1-League.
The 32-year-old first announced the move to Japan back in early March, confirming his exit from Turkish giants Galatasaray at the end of their season in order to embark on an exciting new chapter in his career in Japan.
“It’s not a decision against Galatasaray, it’s a decision I made for a new challenge,” the German said at the time.
I can confirm that at the end of this season I will join Vissel Kobe from the J-League in Japan. It's not a decision against Galatasaray, it's a decision I made for a new challenge, and I will explain more when the time is right. But right now my only focus is helping Galatasaray and our fantastic fans! ????? #Cimbom #Gala #Poldi
Kobe chairman Hiroshi Mikitani said: “We are very excited to have a world-class striker join the Vissel Kobe team.
“We have very high expectations of Podolski’s ability to take the Vissel Kobe team to victory in the J-League.”
Podolski had spent two seasons in Istanbul with Galatasaray after leaving Arsenal in 2015.
Midway through the current J1-League season, Vissel Kobe currently lie 11th in the 18-team table. Their most recent result was a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Kawasaki.
