Las Palmas have decided to promote B-team manager Manolo Marquez as their new first-team boss, following the departure of Quique Setien.

Marquez has penned a one-year contract with the club, who have the option to extend his stay by another year should he meet their objectives.

The vacant post at Los Amarillos was strongly linked with Italian tactician Roberto De Zerbi by numerous Spanish outlets, but the club have promoted from within instead.

The 48-year-old Marquez led the Las Palmas B team to promotion to Segunda B last season.

Under Setien, Las Palmas enjoyed a promising start to their 2016/17 season, but faded towards the business end of their campaign, finishing 14th in La Liga with 39 points.
