Blues win race for Welsh prodigy

Chelsea have beaten Manchester United and Liverpool to the signing of 16-year-old defensive midfielder Ethan Ampadu from Exeter City.

After making his first-team debut for the League Two side at the age of 15, the slender defender-cum-midfielder trained with United and the Reds.

However, the Blues have acted the quickest to secure one of the Football League's most sought after talents.

"Everyone at Exeter City fully supports Ethan's decision to sign for Chelsea," Grecians manager Paul Tisdale told the club website.

The Wales youth international made national headlines after being included in Chris Coleman's senior squad for their World Cup qualifier against Serbia in May.
