1. FC Köln have announced that star striker Anthony Modeste will remain at the club for next season after failing to agree a transfer fee with Tianjin Quanjian.
The Chinese Super League side have been in the market for a marquee forward signing since last year and turned their attention to the towering Frenchman after being rebuffed in their advances for Chelsea’s Diego Costa.
Reports in Germany claimed Modeste, who scored 25 goals in 34 games last season, was set to secure a £30 million move away from the Bundesliga. But the Billy Goats since denied a deal has been agreed.

“Anthony Modeste will not switch to the Chinese Super League, for Tianjin Quanjian, after no agreement was reached between all parties for a possible transfer,” read a statement on the club’s website.
“In addition, no agreement was reached between the clubs. FC Cologne has therefore terminated the negotiations on Wednesday. Anthony Modeste’s contract with FC will run until June 30, 2021.”
