Ex-Bayern star off to Salzburg as coach

FC Bayern München have confirmed that former striker Alexander Zickler has taken up a role as assistant coach at Red Bull Salzburg under manager Marco Rose.

Zickler played for the German giants between 1993 and 2005 during which time he notably helped the side bring home seven Bundesliga titles, four DFB-Pokal Cups, one UEFA Champions League crown, and an Intercontinental Cup as well.

After retiring at the age of 37 in 2010/11, the forward went into coaching and worked with some of the junior sides at Salzburg. The former Germany international also coached with Rose at the same club.

Bayern's official website said: "Former Bayern striker Alexander Zickler has a new job as the assistant to Marco Rose at Red Bull Leipzig. The 43-year-old represented the German record champions from 1993 to 2005 before making the move to Salzburg as a player.

"The seven-time Bundesliga champion will now be on the touchline in Austria and ensuring that his former club can secure qualification to the Champions League."
