Jonathan Tah says he is looking forward to joining up with his new team-mates for pre-season and also shared his thoughts on Bayer 04 Leverkusen new coach Heiko Herrlich.
The 21-year-old centre-back is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BayArena for a groin injury and spoke with the club’s official website about what lies ahead for him in the next few weeks.
“I’m doing really well and the rehab’s going well too,” the Germany international said. “Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take a holiday due to the injury but I’ll make up for that soon. I’m looking forward to it already.”
Asked whether he will be available to join up with his Werkself team-mates at the start of the club’s pre-season regime, Tah indicated that his reintroduction to training is just around the corner but that he will need to ease himself into it.
“Yes, I’m very much looking forward to being back on the pitch very soon,” he stated. “I’ll start training again after my holiday.
“But first of all I’ll have to start working on my own. We’ll gradually increase the workload. I hope to be able to be back in full training two to three weeks after the start of the pre-season.”
The highly-rated youngster went on to give his impressions of Herrlich, who officially took the reins at the Bundesliga club earlier in June.
“Heiko Herrlich really impressed me,” Tah said. “I’m very excited that he’s got started and I’m looking forward to working with him.
“My first conversation with him was also good because it included talking about when I’m going on holiday,” he added jokingly.
