Balotelli extends Nice stay

Mario Balotelli has been rewarded for an outstanding first season at Nice with a new contract to keep him at the club for another year at least.

The 26-year-old striker got his career back on track at the Allianz Riviera after a frustrating spell with Liverpool ended in 2016.

Balotelli thrived under Les Aiglons manager Lucien Favre, scoring 15 goals in 23 outings to help them finish fourth in Ligue 1 and secure a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds.

The Italian was nearing the end of his current deal and had been linked with Marseille and Borussia Dortmund, but the French Riviera outfit doused the exit rumours on Sunday by handing him an extended stay.

Nice made the announcement on Twitter, which read: "OFFICIAL: @ogcnice_eng are delighted to confirm that Mario #Balotelli has signed a new contract with the club."
