Arsenal legend Robert Pires has urged his former club to hold on to Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil while also strengthening to mount a proper title challenge.
Pires, who was part of the Gunners' 2004 Invincibles, believes it is crucial that manager Arsene Wenger hands Sanchez and Ozil new contracts, as their current deals expire next year.
The Frenchman also thinks the north London side need to bolster their ranks if they intend to challenge forPremier League silverware, following a fifth-place finish last season.
"I hope and wish they extend their contracts because they are both very important players for stability and the quality of the team," Pires told Sky Sports.
"We need warriors like Sanchez and we need Ozil.
"I don't know what will happen by the end of the transfer window but I know Arsene Wenger has a lot of work to do this summer."
"Arsenal need to buy some players and spend a lot of money," he added.
"The first objective, and we need to focus on this objective, is to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the season."
