Manchester United defender Phil Jones will have to fight for a place in the starting XI with new signing Victor Lindelof.
The Swedish centre-back on Wednesday completed his transfer from Benfica, giving manager Jose Mourinho a sixth option in defence with Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo.
"We're Manchester United, we're going to attract the best players and the biggest players," Jones told Sky News. "It would be a strange summer if we weren't signing players like that. Competition is always good.
"I've spoken to the manager. He just asks how you're feeling, how you're doing – just a normal conversation between player and manager. He's a good man-manager, he's like that with all the players."
Jones featured 26 times under Mourinho last season and forged an impressive partnership alongside Rojo during the mid-season festive period.
