Japan reach FIFA U20 World Cup knockout stage

Japan came from two goals down to draw 2-2 in their Group D clash against Italy in the FIFA U20 World Cup taking place in the Korea Republic on Saturday.

The result sees both sides qualifying for the Last 16, finishing the group standings with Italy in second and Japan in third spot.

Italy started the game off well and were leading 2-0 after 10 minutes after a cross from the left was turned into the goal by Riccardo Orsolini in the third minute and then free-kick from Francesco Cassata found Guiseppe Panico to slam home a goal in the seventh minute.

Japan pulled a goal back in the 22nd minute when Keita Endo sent in a cross for Doan to get his foot on the end of the ball to score.

In the 50th minute, Japan got the equaliser after Doan grabbed his second goal of the match to make it 2-2 and a place in the knockout stage.  

Group D: Uruguay U20 0-0 South Africa U20

Uruguay topped Group D after drawing 0-0 with South Africa drew in their final group match in Incheon.

The result mean's that Uruguay finishes the group with seven points and will play in the Round of 16 on Wednesday in Suwon against a third-placed side. South Africa head home after finishing in fourth in the group.

Group C: Costa Rica U20 1-0 Zambia U20

Costa Rica reached the last 16 after they earned a 1-0 win over Group C table-toppers Zambia.

The goal was scored via a 15th-minute penalty by Jostin Daly after Jimmy Marin was brought down in the box.

Group C: Portugal U20 2-1 Iran U20

Portugal edged Iran 2-1 to reach the knockout stage needing a late deflected goal to get through. Iran opened the scoring in the fourth minute through a Reza Shekari header from a corner. 

The Portugal goals were scored via Diogo Goncalves in the 54th minute and then in the 86th minute, Xande Silva cross took a deflection off Iran's Nima Taheri to go into his own net and hand Portugal the 2-1 win.
