Pepe still holding out for new Real deal

Real Madrid defender Pep is refusing to give up hope of earning an extended stay at the club with his current deal running out next month.

The Portugal international has become a firm fan favourite at the Santiago Bernabeu in the 10 years since his big-money move from FC Porto.

But Pepe's influence has waned with the emergence of Raphael Varane, although a spate of injuries in the past two seasons also limited his first-team chances.

The 34-year-old made 13 appearances for Los Blancos this term – all starts – as they claimed a first La Liga title since 2012, and they are looking to defend their Champions League crown against Juventus in the final on June 3.

Pepe has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan, but he is prepared to give Real every opportunity to offer him a contract extension.

"The final is on the 3rd, and I have a contract until June 30," he told Marca.

"As I have always said, I will wait on Madrid until the very last. I am happy and I am at 100 per cent to be able to play."
