The U15 Thailand women’s team crushed rival Philippines 6-2 in the final of the AFF U-15 Women’s Championship in Laos on Saturday.
The entertaining final saw Thai star Ploychompoo Somnonk score a brace in a final full of goals. The win also ensured the Thai team went undefeated throughout the tournament.
Somnonk opened up Thailand’s account with a great solo run before she drove the ball past the keeper into the right corner in the 12th minute.
But Philippines were quick to respond, with Ralston equalising five minutes later after a superb right footed strike found the right hand corner from the edge of the box.
The goals kept flowing as Somnonk completed her brace in the 22nd minute with an easy finish and teammate Tinity Parascandola showed great pace to add another just seven minutes later, making it 3-1 at half time.
The Philippine women pulled one back just after the break, with Mendoza showing excellent control to chip the keeper from 25 yards out and on the angle.
This gave them some hope, but Pattarana Aupachai would make it 4-2 in the 59th minute when she was given free header in the box from a corner.
Things fell apart from there for the Philippines, as a misguided header popped over the keeper’s head for an own goal and Janista added the cherry on top with a late final goal for Thailand.
