Badstuber to leave Bayern

Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München have announced that defender Holger Badstuber will leave the club at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old, who came through the club's youth structures, has found opportunities hard to come by at Bayern since suffering an injury that saw him miss the entire 2013-14 season, and has been on loan at FC Schalke 04 since January.

With Schalke opting not to sign him on a permanent basis, the Germany international has now been linked with a move to Manchester City, where he could reunite with former Bayern boss Pep Guardiola.

"It was clear from the outset that after his loan at Schalke that Holger Badstuber is likely to look for a new experience abroad," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club's website.

"To this end, Bayern wishes Holger Badstuber all the best and would like to thank him for his exemplary commitment in the almost 15 years [he has been at the club]."

During his time with Bayern, Badstuber has won five Bundesliga titles, four DFB Cups, and the Champions League.
