Olympique Lyonnais manager Jean-Michel Aulas insists he is proud of his side despite falling short of reaching the Europa League final.
The Ligue 1 outfit lost 5-4 on aggregate to Ajax despite winning 3-1 in the second leg at home on Thursday night.
Aulas was delighted with the performance of his players but wants them to now return their focus to the remaining two games of the Ligue 1 campaign. Lyon are fourth on the standings, with 63 points after 36 games.
"I have to underline the excellent performance turned in by my players tonight. Ajax are a very good team and they decided to get stuck in physically, committing a lot of fouls," Aulas said, according to the club's official website.
"We're extremely proud. We would have deserved a fourth goal. I felt that the lads went very close to achieving a real feat. We need to focus on the fact that we put together a great run in the Europa League. We will reach the final another day.
"Next season's final is at the Parc OL. We need to lick our wounds and get back to business ahead of the final two matches of the Ligue 1 season."
