Keane: Manchester United season ’embarrassing’

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes the club should be “embarrassed” by their performance in the Premier League this season.

Jose Mourinho's charges fell to sixth position in the standings after a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal at the weekend, and are also 19 points off the pace of leaders Chelsea.

Mourinho has stated recently that he is prioritising the Europa League as their best bet to clinch a Champions League berth.

However, despite being on the cusp of progressing to the Europa League final, Keane has been left unimpressed by United's season after spending £146.3m in the transfer market.

"He [Jose Mourinho] has come out with plenty of excuses over the last few months but I can’t see any reason why United should shy away from these challenges," he told ITV Sport.

"They are now sixth in the league, I think they are 19 points behind Chelsea. The manager and the players should be embarrassed by that.

"With the squad they have and the players they have, the money they have spent, it’s not good enough."
