Manchester United’s latest academy graduate Axel Tuanzebe expressed his delight towards manager Jose Mourinho after making his senior debut in the Premier League.
The teenage defender proved to be one of the shining lights for the Red Devils during their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday – as Mourinho looked to rest some of the key players ahead of the Europa League semi-final second leg tie against Celta Vigo on Thursday.
The centre-back was given the task to fill in for Antonio Valencia in the right full-back role and kept the Gunners star forward Alexis Sanchez quiet for most of the encounter. And after the game, he thanked his head coach for the opportunity to showcase his undeniable talent.
"I am proud of the opportunity I was given and I want to say a lot of thanks to the manager for giving me that opportunity," he told MUTV after the game. "But we didn’t get the win today, so it’s a bit of a disappointment but I am chuffed.
"The manager gave me one task, to stay with him [Sanchez] and I seem to have done quite well but again we didn’t win so it doesn’t count as much.
"My goal now is to get as many minutes as I can before the end of the season, and come stronger for pre-season and show the manager I am one of the stronger candidates for next year's team," the 19-year-old concluded.
