Barcelona have revealed that Lucas Digne could be sidelined for the remainder of the club's La Liga title fight after injuring a hamstring.
The 23-year-old France international, who has played 25 times in all competitions this season, was replaced by Jordi Alba during the side's 4-1 win over Villarreal on Saturday.
After undergoing tests, it was revealed the player had strained the muscle in his right leg's bicep, and his comeback will be determined by how he reacts to treatment.
Barca top the Primera Division standings by the narrowest of margins over Real Madrid, leading their rivals by a superior head-to-head record, although Madrid still have a game in hand.
A Barcelona statement read: "Lucas Digne started against Villarreal, but was substituted in the 75th minute by Jordi Alba when Barça were 3-1 up. The tests carried out on the Frenchman have confirmed that he has an overloaded bicep in his right leg. His comeback will depend on how well he recovers."
Digne joined the cub from Paris Saint-Germain last July, having impressed while on loan with Roma.
