Singapore hosts Sultan of Selangor Cup

Singapore will host the 16th annual Sultan of Selangor Cup for the first time in eight years this weekend.

The centerpiece of the event will be a Singapore Selection side taking on their Selangor Selection counterparts after the traditional curtain-raiser between the Singapore Veterans and Selangor Veterans.

Fandi Ahmad, head coach of the Singapore Selection team, believes he has a strong 21-man squad for the event.

“The team has a good mix of young and experienced players, with some quality foreign players from the S-League as well,” he said.

“I hope the fans will come and show their support for the players and the Singapore Selection, especially since we have heard that Selangor will be bringing in thousands of fans to support their side.

“We cannot let the National Stadium become their home ground.”

There will also be a Singapore-Selangor Schools Challenge Cup encounter taking place for the first time this year, with the best under-16s players going head-to-head.
