Benes enjoying life at Borussia Park

VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach’s latest midfield sensation László Bénes admits life at Borussia Park is ‘amazing’ and wants to continue impressing when afforded first-team opportunities.

Dubbed the next ‘Marek Hamsik’ by German media, the 19-year-old Bénes has made waves since breaking into Dieter Hecking’s first-team plans.

Signed for a reported fee of €2million in the start of the season after impressing with MSK Zilina, where he scored two goals and registered five assists in 42 senior appearances, the Slovakian has bided his time before being introduced into the Bundesliga.

After making his first-team debut against FC Bayern Munchen, Benes scored his first goal from the spot in the 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin the following week – and has since gone onto feature six times under Hecking.

Capable of filling in at attacking or defensive midfield roles, Bénes has starred alongside Tobias Strobl, Christoph Kramer and recently Mahmoud Dahoud.

And with Dahoud heading for Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, there’s a real sense of optimism for the teenager to put his name into the reckoning into the starting XI ahead of the next campaign.

I love this game ?⚽️

“It’s an amazing feeling to play at home in front of so many fantastic fans,” he told the club’s website.

“It helps me to no end as a young developing player, especially in a game like the one against Berlin when I started and played 85 minutes of the game.

“The first year was definitely a big shock to the system, but my teammates made it easier for me and helped me adapt and integrate. That was really good for me because I’m a young player.

“It helps when I’m in the squad and get playing time, because just having the experience of being out there on the pitch is what’s most important for me.

“The game against Bayern was great for me, it was special to play against a huge club with so many world-class players.
