Internet bows in awe of Alves and Buffon

Juventus took a commanding 2-0 lead in their Champions League semi-final against Monaco after two goals from Gonzalo Higuain left the Italian champions with one foot in the final.

Yet, rather than Higuain, it was two other experienced campaigners from the Juve squad that earned all the plaudits after outstanding performances for the Old Lady.

Dani Alves and Gianluigi Buffon were in inspired form for Massimiliano Allegri’s side on the night, Alves with a storming game at right back and Buffon his usual reliable self in between the sticks.

In fact, the Brazilian full-back was so inspired, setting up both Juve goals, the first with a stunning backheel, that many questioned whether Barcelona had let the 33-year-old go far too soon.

While former teammate Leo Messi posted the ultimate compliment.

Buffon, meanwhile, continued to defy his years with another solid showing that included a string of important saves.

Oh, and there’s the small matter of this!
