Sunday’s Serie A round-up: Roma slip in title chase

Roma failed to take advantage of Juventus' slip up this weekend as Napoli won their game, while Palermo picked up three points in their battle against relegation.

Roma came unstuck at home to Lazio; losing 3-1 and leaving themselves nine points behind league leaders Juve.

Keita Baldé Diao opened the scoring on 12 minutes, and while Daniele De Rossi levelled from the spot on 45 minutes, Dusan Basta restored Lazio's lead on 50 minutes ahead of a second from Keita on 85 minutes. Antonio Rudiger saw red in the dying minutes.

Genoa suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Chievo with Samuel Bastien (60) and Valter Birsa (70) cancelling out Goran Pandev's (43) opener. Fabio Depaoli was dismissed for the visitors with two yellows in the 90th minute.

Palermo had Alessandro Diamanti (32) and Haitam Aleesami (90) to thank for their 2-0 win over Fiorentina where Davide Astori was sent off with three minutes of the match remaining.

The result lifted the 19th placed side onto 19 points, 11 from safety, with four games to play. Fiorentina remained on 55 points, in eigth.

Crotone held AC Milan to a 1-1 draw where Marcello Trotta scored first on eight minutes ahead of a Gabriel Paletta equaliser five minutes after the restart. In this tie, it was Juraj Kucka to see red at the end of the game, after two yellows.

João Pedro scored the only goal of the game on 23 minutes as Cagliari defeated Pescara 1-0 while Federico Peluso (19), Alessandro Matri (34) and Alfred Duncan (57) were all on target as Sassuolo beat Empoli 3-1, where the defeated side's only goal came from a 24th minute Manuel Pucciarelli penalty.

Bologna had no problems seeing off Udinese 4-0 in their match, with goals from Mattia Destro, on two minutes, Saphir Taider, just before the break, as well as Mattia Destro on 59 minutes, and an own-goal from Danilo with 68 minutes on the clock.

Bologna moved onto 38 points in 15th, with Udinese in 11th with 43 points.

In the final game of the day, Napoli beat Internazionale with José Callejón the only goalscorer on 43 minutes, to keep his side in second place on 75 points, nine behind leaders Juventus, with Inter in seventh with 56 points.
