India international goalkeeper Subrata Paul has failed a dope test, according to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has confirmed.
Paul tested positive for an anabolic steroid in an out-of-competition test performed last month.
The stopper, known as Spiderman for his acrobatic performances, was tested in Mumbai during a training camp ahead of India’s friendly with Cambodia in March.
The test was carried out by officials of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
A second test will be conducted on a B sample in a week’s time and if that proves positive Paul could be facing a four-year ban.
Fans were surprised by the news.
