Puncheon: Palace showed ‘massive character’

Crystal Palace captain Jason Puncheon expressed his delight after the Eagles came back from a goal down to beat Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring for the Reds, but a brace from Christian Benteke secured the three points for Palace as they became the first team to win three consecutive games at Anfield since 2005.

Puncheon credited the Palace players' strength of character for the comeback victory and the quality of their teamwork.

“This was a massive result considering how other results went for us on Saturday and the week we have ahead of us with the game in hand against Spurs and then the match with Burnley on Saturday so it was of great importance to get some points today," he said, according to the official Crystal Palace website.

“Today was another example of the squad showing massive character when it matters out on the pitch and I think we have turned the corner now but great credit to everyone as we were a bit stretched at the back as we were without Mama (Sakho) but people have come back in and done brilliant for us.

“Also behind the back four the keeper was brilliant today and came out well and claimed the ball when he needed to which takes the pressure off at vital times.

“A great team effort got us a vital three points for us.”
