Both Gamba Osaka and Adelaide United will be eager to take a huge step towards securing a place in the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday.
China’s Jiangsu Suning have already secured their place in the knockout round following their perfect four from four record so far. As a result, there is just one place up for grabs and the competition is stiff.
Adelaide are tied with Jeju United on four points, while Gamba is on three points and not out of the running just yet, meaning there is much to play for on Tuesday.
In terms of form, Gamba are in a strong position on the J1 League table, coming off a 6-0 hammering of Omiya Ardija on Friday which will give the Japanese outfit some much needed confidence given their poor AFC form.
Gamba has lost their last three matches of their campaign, including a 4-1 routing at the hands of Jiangsu. However, Gamba should find inspiration in the fact they started off with a bang against Tuesday’s opponents, beating Adelaide 3-0 in Australia on Matchday 1.
Key to the Gamba cause is Brazilian striker Ademilson, who has been disappointing so far, netting just one goal from the penalty spot. Should the exciting South American find his finishing form, Gamba could cruise through to the next round.

Meanwhile, Adelaide don’t have much to write home about domestically, having missed out on the A-League finals series by quite some margin, finishing in ninth.
In the AFC Champions League, the Australian club have somewhat rescued their campaign after starting with two losses, bouncing back with a thrilling 3-3 draw with Jeju then trouncing them 3-1 in the return fixture on Matchday 4.
This has no doubt done their confidence a world of good and fans can expect to see a rejuvenated Adelaide on the pitch in Suita on Tuesday.
