Messi’s 500th Barca goal couldn’t have been more crucial

It had been a long time for Lionel Messi, a whopping six games since his last goal in a Clasico, so you knew it was coming sooner or later.

And as sure as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool losing to a bottom-half side, little Lionel delivered – not once, but twice.

First, scoring a sensational equaliser following a trademark dribble on the edge of the penalty area before throwing the La Liga title race wide open with a stunning winning goal in injury time as Barcelona grabbed a 3-2 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.

That last-gasp goal also happened to be Messi’s 500th goal for Barcelona – and in the face of the race for La Liga it is doubtful he will score a more important one.

The goal leaves Barcelona level on points with Madrid at the top of the table (although Zinedine Zidane’s team have a game in hand) but it also left everyone in awe at the latest achievement of the diminutive Argentine.

The goal left most people lost for words, except for one commentator.

The reaction on social media was predictable.
