Pochettino: Top four would be success for Spurs

Mauricio Pochettino insists a top four finish would represent a successful season for Spurs – even if they miss out on a trophy.

Spurs are fighting on two fronts for silverware, with Pochettino’s men facing Chelsea in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final and still in with a chance of winning the Premier League title.

However, boss Pochettino compares Spurs’ position to that of Atletico Madrid, in La Liga. He believes that if his side continue to qualify for the Champions League, then that is as good as winning a trophy.

"Yes, you can win titles. But with which teams? It is normal to win titles with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, maybe Juventus, Porto in Portugal,” he said.

"Success for me is to finish in the top four like last season. It was a big success for Tottenham and means maybe more than winning one title with Barcelona.

"I dream of lifting trophies but the way I did with Espanyol, two Copa del Reys with Espanyol, that is why I admire Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

“It is so difficult to win with Atletico Madrid. He deserves more credit maybe than some others."
