Alaves dashed Villarreal's Champions League hopes after recording a 2-1 victory at Mendizorrotza on Monday night.
First-half goals from Ibai Gomez and Rodrigo Ely sealed the win for Mauricio Pellegrino's side, although they were made to hang on in the final 20 minutes when Cedric Bakambu halved the deficit.

The Yellow Submarine failed to put pressure on fourth-placed Sevilla, who are eight points better off, while the Babazorros remain unmoved in 11th spot.
The hosts were looking to snap a three-match losing streak in La Liga and they eventually took the lead in the 35th minute when Kiko's cross from the right was cleared only as far as Gomez, who fired a first-time shot into the bottom-left corner of the net from 20 yards out.
The Basque outfit struck again in the final minute of the first half as Ely headed Kiko's inviting cross from the right past Andres Fernandez from six yards out.
The visitors attempted to get back in the contest after the break and they created a few opportunities before Bakambu pulled one back on 70 minutes.
Theo Hernandez was caught dithering on the ball outside his own area, which allowed Bakambu in on the right and his shot from an acute angle took a touch off Ely to loop over Fernando Pacheco's head into the far corner of the goal.
However, Alaves held out for the remainder of the match to clinch a welcome three points.
