Valencia picked up a point in their draw with Sevilla as Granada suffered another blow in their bid for La Liga survival.
There was no separating Valencia and Sevilla as they played out a goalless draw, that ended a three-match winning run for the hosts at the Mestalla.
The result left Los Che in 11th place with 40 points and Los Blanquirrojos three points adrift of third-placed Atletico Madrid, in fourth on 65 points.
Elsewhere, Leo Baptistao scored a stoppage-time goal to secure a 1-0 win for Espanyol and condemn Leganes to another defeat – leaving them in 17th place on 27 points, just five clear of the relegation places.
Espanyol ended the weekend in ninth place with 49 points.
Goals from Jonas Martin (2) and Daniel Ceballosn (89), meanwhile, handed Real Betis a 2-0 win over Eibar to leave them in 14th place with 32 points and Eibar in eighth with 50 points, from their 32 games played.
And Jozabed (23), Marcelo Diaz (73) and Claudio Beauvue (76) all scored at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes to record a 3-0 win for Celta de Vigo and hand Tony Adams his first loss as Granada boss in his first game in charge.
They remained in 10th with 44 points as Granada stayed second from bottom in 19th place with just 20 points.
