Liverpool snuck past West Bromwich Albion 1-0 in Sunday's rather dull Premier League clash, with Roberto Firmino grabbing the winner for the Reds.
- West Brom 0 Liverpool 1
- Robson-Kanu goes close
- Firmino heads home
- Milner volleys over
- Mignolet saves from Phillips
It was a quiet first half in which both sides struggled to create openings. Hal Robson-Kanu had West Brom's best chances while Roberto Firmino opened the scoring for the Reds.
It was an uneventful second stanza as well with James Milner and Matt Phillips going the closest. At the death Alberto Moreno missed a sitter.
It was generally a poor first half of football at the Hawthorns with the best early chance falling to Hal Robson-Kanu. In the second minute he failed to get his feet sorted out when Matt Phillips' misplaced shot went right across the small box.
Liverpool then went close in the 15th minute when Roberto Firmino struck an effort just past the far post after being put through by compatriot Philippe Coutinho.
Eight minutes later the Baggies went close when Phillips' cross from the right seemed destined to be volleyed home by Nacer Chadli, but Firmino got the slightest of touches to get it away to safety.
Robson-Kanu, who was in the side to replace the misfiring Salomon Rondon, then missed the best chance of the half when he volleyed tamely straight at Simon Mignolet from the edge of the area, after being put clear by Jake Livermore.
Just before the break, Firmino would make it 1-0 after James Milner's free kick from the right was flicked on by lucas leiva and he headed home. After the interval, Milner had a chance to make it 2-0 but he volleyed over at the far post from Firmino's cross from the right.
It took until the 80th minute for the Baggies to really threaten when substitute Rondon turned Matip and fed in Phillips, who saw his strike saved from inside of the box by the legs of Mignolet.
There were few further scares in an uneventful clash at the Hawthorns at Liverpool although Alberto Moreno missed a sitter when Ben Foster was caught upfield as the home team chased an equaliser.
