  • Fabian scorcher levels scoreline

  • Aubameyang seals win late on

Match Summary

Reus took just two minutes to announce his comeback with the opener, although the Eagles responded before the half-hour mark with a fine equaliser by Marco Fabian from outside the area.

But Sokratis restored Dortmund’s lead soon afterwards with a thunderbolt from long range and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wrapped up victory at the death.

Dortmund players got together on the pitch to pay tribute to team-mate Marc Bartra, who was injured in a bombing attack on their team bus earlier this week.

Full Report

The hosts made a dream start as they went in front after just two minutes, Christian Pulisic playing a one-two with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and rounding Lukas Hradecky to square for Reus, who back-heeled the ball into the back of the net.

Jesus Vallejo almost steered the ball past his own keeper in the eighth minute as he sliced a clearance in an attempt to cut out Pulisic’s cross, while at the other end Marco Fabian wasted the chance to equalise when he directed Branimir Hrgota’s square pass wide from just 10 yards out.

Bastian Oczipka and Marius Wolf combined on 22 minutes to create an opportunity for Mijat Gacinovic, who fired over the crossbar, before the Serbian midfielder tested Roman Burki with a header from Wolf’s cross two minutes later.

The visitors hit back soon afterwards, however, when Oczipka slipped the ball to Fabian outside the box and the Mexican midfielder picked out the top-right corner of the net with a fabulous strike from 20 yards out.

But parity lasted just five minutes as Dortmund retook the lead through Sokratis, who scored with an even better long-range shot that flew into the top-left corner of the goal.

Sokratis then failed to keep his header down from Reus’ cross in what was the final chance of the first half, and the Greek defender directed another header over in the 66th minute from Ousmane Dembele’s cross.

Frankfurt were inches away from levelling the scoreline four minutes later as Fabian looked to repeat his first-half heroics, but this time his shot narrowly missed the target.

Hradecky was called into action in the closing stages of a cagey second half as Gonzalo Castro hit a tame free-kick at the keeper on 84 minutes, but BVB sealed the win two minutes later.

Dembele released Aubameyang with a lovely weighted pass and the Gabonese striker chipped Hradecky to score his 26th goal of the season.
