Cristiano Ronaldo reached another landmark as he scored twice to help Real Madrid beat 10-man FC Bayern München 2-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
- Bayern 1 Real Madrid 2
- Vidal heads Bayern in front
- Chilean blasts penalty over the bar
- Ronaldo restores parity after restart
- Portugal star secures comeback win
Bayern were the better team in the opening 45 minutes and took the lead through Arturo Vidal midway through the first half, with the Chilean also missing a penalty moments before the break.
But Zinedine Zidane’s side responded quickly after the restart with an equaliser from Ronaldo, who then notched up his 100th European goal on 77 minutes to complete the comeback and give Real the advantage in their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The defending champions were kept quiet for large spells in the first half as Carlo Ancelotti’s men controlled the flow of the game.
Los Blancos had the best chance in the opening stages, though, when Karim Benzema’s downward header was tipped onto the crossbar by Manuel Neuer from Toni Kroos’ cross in the 18th minute.
The Bundesliga leaders would threaten five minutes later as Robben picked out David Alaba from the right, and the Swiss defender flashed a shot wide of the left post from 22 yards out.
And they drew first blood on 25 minutes with a bullet header from Vidal, who connected with Thiago Alcantara’s corner, after Franck Ribery’s shot had been deflected behind off Gareth Bale’s head.
Vidal squandered a good chance to double the hosts’ lead on 40 minutes as he headed wide at the back post from Arjen Robben’s cross after the Dutchman went around his marker on the outside.
Neuer was called into action two minutes later to parry away Ronaldo’s shot on the turn, while Kroos curled an effort wide of the right post moments later after cutting inside from the left.
The Bavarian giants were fortunate to win a penalty on the stroke of half-time when Ribery’s strike appeared to hit Daniel Carvajal on the arm, although replays showed the ball had actually made contact with his chest.
However, Vidal failed to capitalise on the lucky call as he blasted over from 12 yards out, and Real made them pay shortly after the restart.
Carvajal fired in a low cross from the right and Ronaldo side-footed into the bottom-left corner of the net on the volley in the 47th minute.

Neuer had to be alert to keep out Bale’s attempt from inside the area on 56 minutes after the Welshman got on the end of Luka Modric’s cross, but the dismissal of Martinez five minutes later swung the tie in the visitors’ favour.
They poured forward in search of the winner and Benzema’s toe-poke was blocked by Neuer, who then pulled off a sharp reaction save to prevent Ronaldo from scoring again on 75 minutes.
The goal they were threatening arrived two minutes later as Ronaldo stabbed Marco Asensio’s cross through the legs of Neuer from close range.
Bayern were hanging on in the closing stages, and Marcello went close in the 80th minute with a venomous strike from inside the box on the left that flashed past the right post.
Sergio Ramos headed home Kroos’ free-kick in stoppage time, but the Spaniard was in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.
