The Coach: Three favourable fixtures on Matchday 29

GOALMANIA gripped the Bundesliga over the last three Matchdays. It was a thrill-a-minute 10 days that had me on the edge of my seat as a Bundesliga fan and an Official Fantasy Bundesliga player!

I averaged 107 points between Matchday 26 and 28 and, had I not forgotten to change my team for last weekend on account of my birthday festivities that number would have been over 110 – rookie mistake!

Seeing as I gave myself a pretty rubbish birthday gift last week, I thought I’d make myself feel better through the spirit of generosity… so here are three fixtures from this weekend that should lend themselves to big fantasy returns, including three suggestions to replace the suspended Robert Lewandowski.

Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Having sat in third place for three straight weeks at the start of the Rückrunde, Frankfurt have been on a worrying slide since Matchday 20, picking up three points from a possible 27, scoring just three times, whilst conceding 15. The Eagles’ 2-2 draw against Bremen showed signs of life, but a trip to the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, where Dortmund are unbeaten in over two years in the league, couldn’t have come at a worse time for Niko Kovac’s charges.

Player recommendations
Lukasz Piszczek (DF, 173pts, 13.2M):
The Pole has scored double digits eight times this season and will likely profit from Dortmund keeping a clean sheet.

Ousmane Dembele (FW, 168pts, 13.35M): Dembele wins an average of over 12 challenges a game thanks to his dribbling abilities and I’ve got a feeling he’ll be on the scoresheet.

Augsburg vs Cologne

I have a big soft spot for Augsburg, but their recent performances against Ingolstadt and Hertha have not been of top-flight quality. Manuel Baum’s men are leaking goals at an alarming rate and struggling to create goalscoring chances. If Augsburg fail to improve Cologne, who will be looking to bounce back from the Rhine Derby defeat, have the quality to capitalise as they look to climb back into the top six. I’m expecting goals!

Player recommendations
Milos Jojic (MF, 68pts, 6.1M):
Jojic has picked up 30 points in his last three games, but may drop out of the starting line-up if Leonardo Bittencourt can prove his fitness so be careful.

Anthony Modeste (FW, 277pts, 16.8M): A must-have this weekend given how poor Augsburg’s backline have been of late. He’ll be my choice for the captain’s for sure!

Darmstadt vs Schalke

Schalke’s win against Wolfsburg came at a crucial time as it moved them to within four points of the top six, but that result will be for nothing if they fail to maintain their momentum against bottom-of-the-table Darmstadt. The Lillies have lost seven of their last eight Bundesliga games and, while they have the advantage of having nothing to lose, I’m not convinced that will be enough to prevent the Royal Blues from taking all three points.

Player recommendations
Thilo Kehrer (DF, 88pts, 2.35M):
Kehrer wins an average of 13 challenges and, having collected 55 points in his last five appearances, how can you not have him in your side.

Guido Burgstaller (FW, 85pts, 8.5M): If you’re looking for a cheaper option up front then Burgstaller’s your man. He’s a bit hit or miss, but I reckon he could be a big hit on Sunday.

Don’t forget that with no Friday night game you can make transfers up until kick-off on Saturday, which gives you a huge advantage this weekend as you’ll have 12 confirmed line-ups to pick from when making your transfers. So don’t jump the gun – for once I’m preaching patience!
