Global FC out to win against Johor Darul Ta’zim

Although Global will play in Manila in their second meeting with JDT, the Filipino club will need to be at their best to defeat their illustrious opponents.

Global FC should come into the match as the underdog

The home side will need to be on their toes as they face a monumental task to come out victorious against Johor Southern Tigers. The 4-0 scoreline in their first meeting was very much telling of the difference in level of play, but on paper, the Philippine champions could pull off an upset if they can dictate the game and play to their strengths.

A more defensive approach with a dependence on the counter-attack could be a safer route but as long as they can stifle JDT’s attack, they have every chance of pulling off a win.

JDT should never let their guards down

In spite of the big win in the earlier encounter, JDT’s expected superiority could work against them on match-day if they treat Global lightly.

Global FC are a good side with a potent attack. If the Southern Tigers stay calm and are able to stamp their style of play on the game, a win is very much on the cards.

Players to watch:

Global FC

Misagh Bahadoran – His omission from the national team’s AFC Asian Cup qualifiers due to injury could have given him enough recovery time to feature on Wednesday’s match. The Filipino forward can be lethal and will provide the necessary threat up front if he plays.

Yu Sasaki – The Japanese midfielder/winger possesses pace that, if properly utilised, could provide the means to create openings in the JDT defence and provide scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Wesley Dos Santos – The Brazilian center-back will be critical as he partners with Amani Aguinaldo in keeping the Southern Tigers’ attack in check.

Johor Darul Ta’zim

Safiq Rahim – The squad’s captain possesses a wealth of experience to complement his undoubted ability. A main supplier for his team’s attack, and one of the barometers of Johor’s overall performance, he will definitely be one to watch out for.

Gonzalo Cabrera – The Argentine attacking midfielder can also score goals. With a decent number of strikes on the domestic front, his threat can not be ignored in the AFC Cup.

Ahmad bin Bakri – A pacy winger/striker for JDT, his speed and ability to score from the wings could pose a problem for Global FC.

What to expect:

Johor Darul Ta’zim will try to dominate the match. Their talent and more importantly their experience, could prove to be the difference.

Global FC also have a good chance as they will play on home soil in the Rizal Stadium. If they play to the best of their ability, a win is possible which would increase their chances of proceeding to the next stage.
