Jurgen Klopp had hoped that the England international would be fit for Saturday’s clash with Everton, but he is yet to return to training and will remain on the treatment table.
It leaves Klopp facing a headache in midfield for the derby, with Adam Lallana sidelined by a thigh problem picked up on international duty.
However, Daniel Sturridge has returned to training after recovering from the hip problem sustained last month.
Sturridge hasn’t played since Liverpool’s defeat at relegation-threatened Hull City, but could be on the bench at Anfield.
Brazilian pair Coutinho and Roberto Firminho are both expected to be involved too after returning to full training following their appearances in the World Cup qualifiers.
