Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has responded to Spain teammate Gerard Pique’s criticism of his club, insisting that Barcelona are not exactly innocent.
Pique revealed that he would never be able to work for Los Merengues in any capacity because of the kind of 'values they transmit' and the fact that those in the box seats 'pull the strings'.
However, Ramos has hit back at Pique, saying that the Catalans are on the same level when it comes to the higher-ups controlling matters.
"What Pique says won't change the values, our badge, our history or our titles," Ramos told reporters, according to Football Espana.
"What he says will provoke headlines and sell newspapers but we live off of that.
"In every box seat strings are pulled, but if anything, [Barcelona] should, in general, have more to be quiet about than we do.
"The statements, if they came from [Andres] Iniesta, would annoy [Madrid]. From Pique? No! That's part of Pique's character. We're not going to change him at the age of 30. We have to enjoy him as a great footballer."
