Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has no love for archrivals Barcelona, but is once again ready to put that animosity aside for the Spanish national team.
As always, Los Blancos are locked in a battle with Barca for La Liga glory, and this season has seen Ramos and Barca’s Gerard Pique being typically vocal in the press.
"It's the way it is between Real Madrid and Barcelona and that will not change," he said, quoted by AS.
But with domestic football taking a break for World Cup qualifiers, Ramos and Pique must make amends to form an effective centre-back pairing for Spain against Israel on Friday.
"The key is the unity in the team, and that cannot be lost," Ramos said. "Now, I will give [Pique] a hug.
"We have become accustomed to throwing stones, but we take it without malice and it is always healthy."
La Roja currently top Group G in qualification for Russia 2018, level on points with Italy while Israel are just one point behind after four matches.
