Bayern v Real Madrid: ‘A real European classic’

Bayern Munich will take on Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, and manager Carlo Ancelotti believes it will be a 'special' occasion.

The Italian lead Madrid to La Decima, their much-awaited 10th European title, but will now be plotting their downfall ahead of the first leg at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday April 12th.

"Matches against Real are obviously special for me. It'll be exciting for me to go back to Madrid. By the quarter-final stage all the teams are well-known, there are no secrets anymore. Little things can be the difference."

Another former Madridista to feature for Bayern is midfielder Xabi Alonso, who says it will be "particularly special" for him, while Bayern captain Philipp Lahm is looking forward to another visit to the Bernabeu.

"It's a nice draw, a real European classic," Lahm said. "I've had some interesting battles with Real Madrid over the years, both at home and in Madrid.

"It'll be nice to be able to play at the Bernabeu once more. The atmosphere's always great there.

"I don't think it makes a big difference if you're at home first because one goal away from home can change a lot. We need to get a good result in Munich. We have a strong team and we know we can score goals at their place too."
