Singapore will host European giants FC Bayern München, Chelsea and Inter Milan for the International Charity Cup.
The Asian city will host the event for the next four years. All the matches of the round robin tournament will be hosted at the National Stadium.
Patrick Murphy, the president of the CMG group which helped found the event, is excited about Singapore hosting the world class tournament, which will take place from July 25-29.
“The ICC has revolutionised the pre-season touring experience for the world’s biggest and best football clubs and we are pleased to be able to expand the event and bring the tournament to Southeast Asia,” he told the Straits Times.
“Singapore is a natural choice due to its location, efficiency and more importantly, the nation’s passion for international sporting events.”
Meanwhile, Football Association of Singapore president Lim Kia Tong is looking forward to seeing a full house at the 55 000-seat National Stadium.
“Football is a key platform and vehicle to galvanise the people,” said Tong.
“We have been working with our partners to host quality matches to inject vibrancy to football and to bring out the Kallang roar. We are delighted that the ICC will be hosted in Singapore in July.”
