FC Bayern Munchen captain Philipp Lahm has made it clear that he wants Arsenal to realise they have absolutely no chance of winning Tuesday’s Champions League Round of 16 tie.
The Bavarians take on a Gunners side that is seemingly bereft of confidence after some high profile defeats to major opposition in recent times. Aside from being clobbered 5-1 by Bayern in the first leg, Arsenal have lost in the Premier League to Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.
The outfit from London are also in fifth place in the league and appear to be looking doubtful to claim a place in the Champions League next season. The loss of form domestically and in Europe has seen the future of coach Arsene Wenger questioned.
In addition, reports of a rift between star forward Alexis Sanchez and Wenger has seemingly done little to bring stability to a dressing room that appears to lack belief and confidence.
As such, Lahm has revealed his high-flying side will have little mercy for the flagging Londoners and will send a message that they have no chance by turning on the style in the opening to Tuesday’s encounter.
He told Bayern’s official website: “We have to be highly focused and, most importantly, show Arsenal in the first quarter-hour they can forget the next round.”
